Poster of Andrea Pirlo

Andrea Pirlo is one of the most talented and accomplished midfielders in the world. He is known as a maestro, due to his ability to control the tempo of a match and orchestrate play from the middle of the park. His skills and vision make him an asset to any team, and he has won numerous trophies during his career. In this blog post, we will take a closer look at Andrea Pirlo's career and examine why he is considered one of the best midfielders in history.

Pirlo's Club Career

In his prime, there were few players more elegant or gifted on the ball than Andrea Pirlo. The Italian midfielder was a maestro in the centre of the park, dictating the tempo of games with his pinpoint passing and vision. He was also a free-kick specialist, capable of curling the ball into the top corner from 30 yards out with alarming regularity.

Pirlo started his career with Brescia before joining Inter Milan in 1998. He helped Brescia with promotion to the first division by winning the Serie B. However, he failed to establish himself in the first team at Inter Milan and was subsequently sold to city rivals AC Milan for just €17 million in 2001. It was at Milan where Pirlo truly began to shine. He played 400 games for the club scoring 41 goals and providing 70 assists. He won 9 trophies during his time with the Rossoneri winning two Serie A titles and two Champions Leagues.

In 2011, Pirlo made the surprise move to Juventus, where he would spend the final years of his career. He helped Juve to win four consecutive Serie A titles, as well as reaching the final of the Champions League in 2015. Pirlo finally called time on his illustrious career in 2017, after spending a season with MLS side New York City FC.

Pirlo's Managerial and International Career

In May 2018, it was announced that Pirlo would be joining Juventus' coaching staff, working with the club's under-23 side. In June 2019, he was promoted to head coach of Juventus U23. On August 27th 2020, Pirlo was named as the new manager of Juventus's first team after Maurizio Sarri was sacked following a Champions League round of 16 exit. He managed to win the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana but was sacked at the end of one season because of his poor run in the league.

In addition to his club successes, Pirlo also enjoyed a hugely successful career with the Italian national team. He was a key member of the 2006 World Cup-winning squad, providing numerous assists during the tournament. He also played an important role in Italy's road to the final of the Euros 2012.

Pirlo retired from international football in 2015, after making over 100 appearances for his country scoring 13 times and provided 25 assists.

Why Is Pirlo Considered One of the Best Midfielders of All Time?

Andrea Pirlo's playing style evolved significantly over the years. When he started out, he was more of an attacking midfielder who liked to get forward and create chances for his teammates. However, as he has matured, he had developed into a more reserved and deep-lying playmaker, sitting in front of the defence and dictating play from there. This change in role has suited him perfectly, and he has excelled in this position for both club and country.

There are several reasons why Andrea Pirlo is considered one of the best midfielders of all time. Firstly, his vision and passing ability are second to none. He has the ability to pick out a killer pass from anywhere on the pitch, and his pinpoint accuracy is often too much for even the best defenders to handle. Secondly, Pirlo is an excellent free-kick taker and has scored some spectacular goals from dead-ball situations. Thirdly, he is a master of controlling the tempo of a game and dictating play from midfield. fourthly, Pirlo has won numerous trophies at both club and international level, cementing his place as one of the most successful midfielders in history.

Andrea Pirlo is, without doubt, one of the greatest midfielders of all time. His vision, passing ability, free-kick taking and tactical nous have helped him to enjoy a hugely successful career at both club and international level.
