Franz Beckenbauer's Club Career

Franz Beckenbauer began his career with Bayern Munich in 1964. He quickly became a key player for the club, and he helped them win the Bundesliga title in 1968. The following year, he captained the team to victory in the European Cup. He continued to lead Bayern Munich to success throughout the 1970s, winning multiple titles and cups.

He left Bayern in 1977 for New York Cosmos but eventually returned back to Germany with Hamburger SV where he won the Bundesliga title again. In total, he made over 500 appearances in his club career scoring 59 goals and providing 75 assists. He went to win 15 trophies during that time.

After retiring from playing in 1977, Beckenbauer moved into coaching. He took charge of Bayern Munich in 1993 and led them to victory in the UEFA Cup. He also had successful spells coaching Olympique de Marseille and Hamburger SV.

Throughout his career, Franz Beckenbauer was widely regarded as one of the best players in the world. He became the only defender to win the Ballon d'Or twice in 1972 and 1976. He won the World Soccer Player of the Year three times and was also inducted into both the German Football Hall of Fame and the FIFA World Cup All-Time Team.

Beckenbauer's time with West Germany

By coaching West Germany to their 1990 FIFA World Cup victory, Beckenbauer became one of only three men to have won the World Cup both as a player and manager. The other two are Brazil's Mário Zagallo and Didier Deschamps of France. After his successful coaching career, Beckenbauer turned to management, and in 1993 he took charge of Bayern Munich. Beckenbauer’s time as manager of Bayern Munich was highly successful, as he led the team to victory in the Bundesliga and UEFA Cup. In 1999 he was voted European Player of the Century in an election held by French football magazine France Football and came second behind Pelé in their World Player of the Century poll. That same year he was named by Pelé as one of the 125 greatest living footballers at FIFA's 100th-anniversary celebration. In 2004 he was named by Pelé as one of the top 125 greatest living footballers. He was inducted into both the German Football Hall of Fame and the FIFA World Cup All-Time Team.

In recent years, Beckenbauer has served as the president of Bayern Munich and has been instrumental in making the club a powerhouse in European football.
