Who was Jimmy Greaves and what was his club career like?

In 1961, after a brief spell with AC Milan Greaves made a move to Tottenham Hotspur for a then-record fee of £99,999. It was at Spurs that Greaves truly cemented his legacy as one of England's all-time greats. In total, he scored 266 goals in 379 games for Tottenham across nine seasons - a tally which is still a club record today. Greaves helped Spurs win two FA Cups in 1962 and 1967 and the European Cup Winners Cup in 1963 making Tottenham the first ever British club to win a European trophy.

Greaves also had a successful spell with West Ham United before finally retiring from football in 1971. In total, he scored an incredible 357 goals in just 12 seasons of professional football.
